The main purpose of this paper is to show that Heidegger’ understanding of the Kantian notion of Time can be evaluated as crucial to the development of Heidegger’ ontology. Especially in regard to the so-called ‘Turn’of Heidegger’ thinking, which has usually been misconceived as a shift from ‘doing’to ‘dwelling’ it is very important to understand that Heidegger regards the transcendental philosophy of Kant as ontological in essence.
Many scholars have been believed that the ‘Turn’mark Heidegger’ critical detachment from transcendental phenomenology. However, this is to overstate the difference. Heidegger’ analysis of the Kantian notion of time shows us clearly that there is no principal difference between transcendental phenomenology and ontology; both are essentailly same, which means that there can be no ontology in the Heideggerean sense without transcendental phenomenology.
It is noteworthy that for Heidegger transcendental phenomenology is not at all to equate with Husserl’ phenomenology. According to Heidegger, philosophy is essentially a transcendental ontology which begins with the phenomenological understanding of Being.
