There has been a great amount of progress made in creating new points of compass and building up new emerging motifs and processes in the field of Sustainable Design (SD) during the last few decades. Comprehending the behind motivation and the characteristics of SD will be critical to affront the continuing and deliberately enrooting global challenges of equalizing the contemporary needs along with the future ones. This paper provides mostly acclaimed definitions of SD and new emerging issues and opportunities for other disciplines to contribute to the filed of SD through literature review.
