This study focused on the formal characteristics and the meaning of the poetic space, “Dongne” in nursery rhyme of Kwon Tae-eung to look into his works.
The former studies about his texts started from the middle of 1990’s refered that his nursery rhyme succeeded the traditional children’s song. But there was diversity than regularity in rhythm. So instead of diachronic stance, it is useful to compare his texts to other contemporary children’s songs to define the formal characteristics in detail. As a result, I found the stanzaic repetition which is the essential trait as the words of the children’s song and the dialogic form maybe suitable for fairy tale play.
The poetic space, “Dongne” is both the background of his texts and the representation of rural community somewhat different from traditional Confucian order society. So I suggest that defining the meaning of “Dongne” elaborated in each texts is the way to find out the ideology underlying his texts and from that ideology we can evaluate his texts by making referent with the social contexts of the period of liberation.
“Dongne” is the space where is not human-centered but every life is equal and doesn’t force children dominant role of national reconstruction. Also “Dongne” refuses traditional Confucian order such as male chauvinism or negative aspect of seniority. These aspects shows us the poetic space, “Dongne” is alternative society rather than traditional rural one.
