Song, Kyong-Sook. 2011. University Students' Language Attitudes Toward Global Society English: Teaching World Englishes. Korean Journal of English Language and Linguistics 11-3, 497-519. This paper explores Korean university students' language attitudes toward global society English with reference to teaching World Englishes. This paper first introduces the notion of international, global language, and discusses English as an international, global language. Based on the questionnaires conducted in 2008-2011, this paper examines 235 Korean university students' understanding of English and its use around the world, and investigates their language attitudes toward global society English, and World Englishes. It was found that Korean university students have open-mindedness about learning various world Englishes, Englishes in the Inner Circle countries as well as in the Outer Circle countries although they have a light preference in Englishes in the Inner Circle to the Outer Circle. This paper discusses some implications with regard to the critical language pedagogy and paradigm shift in teaching/learning English as an international, global language, and World Englishes.
