What is service design? Why is service design drawing attention? When didservice design appear? This paper started to answer these simple questions because the term and the concept of service design is still new to the general audience and even to people in the design field.Today’s industries and companies have been changed greatly from a product, technology providers to the solution, and service providers, which means that a paradigm shiftsfrom placing emphasis on manufacturing goods to providing services. This new concept and service era has becomea key issue worldwide, especially in European countries,who noticed earlier on that design isa key element to resolve society’s current problems and developed systems in response. This paper will briefly explain what service design is, when and where it is needed, who the provider is and how to deliver service design.By doing so, it will acknowledge the importance of service design. A case study will be performed to analyze the process of service design work, and because of the intangibility of service design, evaluation methodology from other disciplines will be implemented to investigate service quality.
