This paper seeks ways to reconstruct the existing Korean language textbooks for returning students transferred to regular middle schools in Korean. The basic directions taken here for the reconstruction are integrative Korean language education, diversification of learner-centered activities, process-based instruction, and integrating Korean language education with first language education. The reconstruction of the Korean language textbooks also includes a variety of activities such as learning new vocabulary, understanding a given text, and speaking, listening, writing and reading related materials. This reconstruction is meaningful in that it can help returning students be more psychologically stable, have a sense of belonging, and reach the learning objectives suggested in the current curriculum. However, this paper is also defective in that it can be very difficult to implement our findings in the actual classroom.
