The present study examines the distinctive features of Kim, Choon－soo’s poetic language. Also, this study examines how his attitude toward poetic language had developed. In other words, this study aims at showing how Kim, Choon－soo’s language consciousness had changed and come to an exclusive vision.
In the earlier poems, Kim, Choon－soo had expected that his poetic language could reflect the universal. He wanted to express the aspects of ‘Sein’(Heidegger). However, he could only face the gap between ‘Sein’ and ‘Seiendem’. After that period, Kim, Choon－soo turned back to the universal, ‘Sein’, and he tried to focus on the appearances of the things. If we explain this turning point by the terms of Hans Georg Gafamer, we could say that Kim, Choon－soo took the way down(‘Weg hinab’) to ‘Seiendem’ instead of the way up(‘Weg hinauf’) to ’Sein’.
However, that was not the eventual answer. Finally, Kim, Choon－soo tried to synthesize those two ways. He realized that the important mission bestowed on the poetic language is to mediate both ends. In later poems Kim, Choon－soo showed that the poetic language could aim at the universal, and simultaneously explore all the details of the individual things.
