The purpose of this study is to provide practical alternatives as to popularization of golf in Korea by examining problems derived from various characteristics of golf and social and cultural phenomenon in relation to golf. Throughout analyzing the recognition of professional golfers, who play important roles in Korea golf industry, toward popularization of golf in Korea, this study will examine characteristics and problems in popularization of golf and its grounds as well. To accomplish the purpose of the study, 6 professional golf players are subject to in-depth interview based on phenomenological study method that is one of qualitative research method and the results are as follows; First, with regard to professional golfer’s perception toward popularization of golf, on the one hand, golfers have positive perception on the popularization of golf because of self development through competition, maintenance of good relationship, maintenance of physical and mental health, and self-cultivation accrued from golf. They also recognize golf as a sport for all age and environmental-friendly. On the other hand, golfers recognize negatively because playing golf may be accompanied by economic burden, disharmony among people, excessive time consumption, and negligence toward family and work. Secondly, regarding practical alternatives for popularization of golf, in economic aspect, golfers point out reduction of green fee, reasonable price of golf equipment, and cost for using additional facilities. For the aspect of golf education, professional golf training institute and golf education program from the early age are necessary from elementary, junior, and senior high school with flexible utilization of facilities. With regard to golf equipment, korean golf equipment with high quality and reasonable price should be supplied while government should consider on tax reduction and deregulation on government employee player for the policy aspect. As for the perception to utilize the golf facility, managing staff should change the perception toward golf facility to be used flexibly not only for golf purpose but also for others. Also effort to make a systemic policy and domestic trip program to attract the foreign golfer is necessary for the popularization of golf and minimization of overseas golf tour.
