This study is about the background of how Hwang Seok-yeong got interested in Division literature and 「Bukmang, far and solitary Place」,「A Returned Man」as a beginning of the Division Novel. I looked closely about the change process of the text and confirmed how his division consciousness transformed.
In Hwang Seok-yeong's early Division Novel, He showed a microscopic view by dealing with conflicts between individuals and their neighbors caused by war rather than the scene of the war. He shows conflicts and after·math caused by division and war injuries are continuing until present.
Hwang Seok-yeong's novel does not provide active clue about overcoming the division. The novel has been completed by suggesting the tragedy. But did not avoid tragedy and remember so conflict resolution and reconciliation can be opened.
The tragedy of division not only means war and the division of the land. In this respect, Hwang Seok-yeong's early Division Novel shows enough sprouts of superior division novel.
