Transportation had been restricted politically and socially with it broken off from the central of politics, but their journey to transport and life in a place of exile was not necessarily hard and desperate. Lee Mun-geon(李文楗) was banished to Seongju (星州) for 20 years under Myeong Jong's rule. When he was transported, he didn't accompany government official who transfer prisoner. Instead, he left for a place of exile separately and reached his in-laws, Goesan(槐山). He stayed there for two days and received 6 slaves, 4 horses, all kinds of items and money.
Although he was the criminal, he often visited some regions far away from a place of exile such as Goesan(槐山), Gyeongju (慶州) and Seonsan(善山) etc. Also, he managed family affairs and was communicated with neighboring Sajok(士族). He had stayed at Goesan even for two months, leaving Seongju. He often received a variety of items from relatives and acquaintances. Even neighboring civil official offered some items and money for him.
He made a money in Seongju, using a variety of ways such as land reclamation, offering slaves' labor force, trade of herring. With such a large income, he lived in comfortably not as a criminal but a ordinary Sajok who lived in local region.
In the 16th century, the journey to transport and life in a place of exile was freer than at any other time. However, this paper is short of a variety of concrete case studies about transportation of the middle of Joseon Dynasty. Thus, it is necessary that we should analyze concretely the differences in transportation as compared to other period.
