This study was to investigate Breast Diseases During Breastfeeding oriental medically. Breast Diseases During Breastfeeding is called breast-ache in korea.(by korean "젖몸살") The names of disease in conventional medicine - Mastitis, Engorgement, Plugged duct, Breast abscess- fall under the category of Breast Diseases During Breastfeeding. Mastitis is the most prominent and broad concept meanig Breast Diseases During Breastfeeding, So this study for convenience referred to as Mastitis.
Oriental medical treatment of mastitis was studied on two subjects. One is to decide the name of a disease and the other is to analyze the characters of treatment in oriental medicine in conformity with the name of a disease.
An analysis on oriental medical terms that means mastitis by medical significance showed that ‘Chwiyu(吹乳)’, 'Tuyu (妬乳)' and ‘Yuong(乳癰)’ were representative names of disease in oriental medicine. Each name of disease has its own distinguishing clinical manifestations and it’s important to diagnose it exactly. 發熱(Pyrexia) and 腫痛(swelling & aching of breast) have different symptom expressions and associated symptoms. When clinically diagnosing in terms of oriental medicine, ‘Yuong(乳癰)’ is examined first. In case of not, it is a rational approach to distinguish 'Tuyu(妬乳)' and ‘Chwiyu(吹乳)’ in order to diagnose it effectively and exactly.
Formulations of prescription, composed drug and physical reaction, including the use of internal and external medicine, are different in ‘Chwiyu(吹乳)’, 'Tuyu(妬乳)' and ‘Yuong(乳癰)’. Acupuncture treatment is used as first-aid to prevent disease from getting worse rapidly. It supplements drug treatment and helps rapid treatment, and consequently it has a role to make up for the weak points of drug treatment.
