Zhang Chao, pen name Shan Lai, also known as Xin Zhai, was a Qing Dynasty scholar from Xi Xian county, An Hui Province. He authored 『You Meng Ying』、『Liao Fu Ji』、『ShiHuan』、『Xin Zhai Shi Chao』、『Bi Ge』，and compiled 『Yu Chu Xin Zhi』、『Zhao Dai Cong Shu』、『Tan Ji Cong Shu』. In early Qing Dynasty literary and cultural circles, he was a well known man of letters whose works were highly regarded. especially 『Zhao Dai Cong Shu』、 『Tan Ji Cong Shu』、『Yu Chu Xin Zhi』 was given a riotous welcome by the literators of those days. These books are read in Korea and Japan as well by so many people. This paper studies his works and his interaction with ther literati of his time through analyzing the forwards, postscripts, and commentaries from 《Chi Du You Sheng》, 《Chi Du Ou Cun》 and other works. Through 《Chi Du You Sheng》, 《Chi Du Ou Cun》, we could realize that Zhang Chao had exchanged with more than 300 literary men at that time. Especially, he interacted with drifting peoples of Ming Dynasty, publishers, Xiao Pin author often more than others. They influenced each process of his literary works such as collecting other works, and editing his works things like that when he tried to publish his works. One of Zhang Chao most important achievements was that of printing books. We can understand culture, economy, society of that time by things that he had left.Thus, we can say that he actually contributed conservation of ancient literature records, and spreading local culture a lot.
