This paper attempts to re-read August Wilson’s play, Two Trains Running (1992), by turning to disability studies and focusing on a disabled character of the play, Hambone. It first argues for the necessity to introduce a disability studies perspective into the study of Wilson’ plays. It then finds opportunistic uses of disability as a metaphor in Wilson’s representation of Hambone and points out Wilson’s failure to provide a new/different way of looking at the disabled. The paper ends with a discussion of several implications of the use of disability for an exclusively metaphorical purpose, including its effects on the audience’s/reader’s concepts of and attitudes toward the disabled.
