The Recently, one of the most popular wireless network technologies is wireless body area networks (WBAN). And WBAN is a key technology for the ubiquitous era including U-health and U-society. WBAN will be used not only in medical applications but also in non-medical applications within human body area.
In this paper, we introduce the applications for WBAN and bring up the guideline for application based on the technical requirements. Finally, we design a novel multimedia service framework for wireless body area networks in terms of application. In WBAN, multimedia service is very important and essential to support a variety of applications. The proposed multimedia service framework has 5 modules (text-based data module, multimedia data module, data process module, data control module, data delivery module) according to application characteristics. According to the kind of application, we can make a multimedia service framework and several mechanisms. Also, we should consider the real environments to realize the multimedia service in WBAN. And we assume that the multimedia service framework is used for the non-medical application rather than the medical application in many cases.
