This study investigated the consciousness of Shin Yu Hwan' prose in the 17th century. At that time there was two point of view on the prose. The one there was Heomog' school, the other there was Kim Chang Hyeb' school. Shin Yu Hwan' theory had developed between Heomog' school and Kim Chang Hyeb' school. Generally speaking Shin Yu Hwan belonged to Heomog' school. Of course it was accepted but i certainly cannot agree that. It would be better to develop free from two schools. Because he had worked out of the teacher and pupil' relationship. His consciousness of the prose was investigated four points. First, he had considered history books as text book of the prose. In other words he thought the historic writing was so good at prose. Second, he had prefered spelling of Seon-Jin, Han periods. Sometimes he tried to imitate a special words, or paragraphs. Third, although it was a prose there was a joy of reading such as poems. This was the emphasis of rhythm in reading. Forth, the sentence was consisted a concise style. Therefore there was need to get rid of unnecessity writings. Based on this his prose was charactered the development of the situation.
