Conventional hierarchical modulation is used to divide one transmitting symbol stream into two demapperinputs, one of which is high priority (HP) stream and the other is low priority (LP) stream. Each stream go into demappers which have low level modulation scheme. This paper shows that the hierarchical modulation combined trellis code has some coding gain compared with conventional hierarchical modulation.
