This paper describes a handwritten Thai character recognition system using quasi-topological codes (QTCs). The QTCs in this approach assumed that the text is scanned in column direction, moving form left to right over the character images. The codes can be defined in terms of certain events detected in the examination of two consecutive scan columns.
