In recent years museum institutions have pushed forward the use of digital archiving of both tangible and intangible cultural assets. But while digitized cultural resources have been mainly applied in the areas of preservation and data analysis, their use as part of the exhibition has not been actively pursued. The present study will address the use of digital archives of exhibition objects for the creation and inspection of exhibition contents for mobile devices. Guide contents utilizing advanced functions in highly sophisticated mobile devices like smartphones rather than traditional one-sided displays of content and information have the potential to offer information intuitively. With the cooperation of the Kyushu National Museum, The guide contents for a large tangible cultural asset, the Tahosenbutsusekito (Stone pillar of the thousand Buddhas) where prepared by using and verifying 3D digital model data retrieved from the museum's digital archive material. The effectiveness of the exhibition is made clear by the new guide contents produced by the utilization and activation of the digital archives.
