Internet security has always been high on company agendas, and even more so nowadays, due to its direct impact on security-critical assets. We, as a large ISP has the important responsibility for protecting our network infrastructure from an ever-growing number of threats. Risk analysis, or risk assessment, is fundamental to the security of any organization. Most risk analysis methodologies, however, depend on a professional consultant’s subjective view based on questionnaire surveys. In this work, we discuss risk analysis considering a data measurement-based methodology, that is, assets, vulnerabilities, and threats data-based approach to evaluating the level of risk. The proposed risk analysis methodology is more objective than others because it makes use of real data from IT systems and also provides qualitative output supporting the security investment planning and management. Moreover, it enables our own staffs to evaluate the level of security without the need to hire external security consultants.
