In high-speed multimedia satellite communication system, it is essential to provide high-quality, economical services by using efficient transmission schemes which can overcome channel impairments appearing in the satellite link. This paper evaluates the performance of adaptive coding and modulation (ACM) procedures in Ka-band mobile satellite operating environment, with the DVB-S2 being considered as a forward communication link. The main DVB-S2 feature is its adaptive air interface, where coding and modulation techniques are varied flexibly to maximize performance and coverage. In adaptive systems such as DVB-S2, the important thing is to show how fast and well system moves adaptively into another modulation and coding (MODCOD) transmission mode in order to keep the BER of 10??. So, in this paper, we show and discuss the BER performance of DVB-S2 system in Ka-band mobile satellite channel environment. Also, we decide to modulation and coding according to SNR level to improve the adaptive ability of system and calculate the maximum throughput on that occasion.
