There are many empirical and numerical methods which have come from other country for estimating the rock socketed bored pile capacity. However the behavior of pile is different from rock type, so it is hard to predict the pile behavior using the empirical method which is based in sandstone, siltstone and limestone in Korea. This paper describes the results of pile load tests on socketed drilled shaft in gneiss in Korea. The characteristics of pile capacity are discussed, and the results are compared with other existing empirical methods for pile capacity.
