The primary purpose of this study is to perform an assessment on the economic and social impacts of casino that have been perceived by residents as well as examine socio-demographic variables of casino community residents in Ledyard, Connecticut. This study includes how legally authorized gaming operations in New England area performed and perceived by residents. How the perceptions of a casino operation on economic and social impacts can be different between socio-demographic categories and variables. These findings can be applied into the Korean market where tend to face similar physical and social environment. The questionnaires were randomly distributed to residents in Ledyard, Connecticut from 24th April to 20th May 2010 through the QUALTRICS Research Suite, and total of 250 questionnaires were used for the research. SPSS 12.0 (frequency, factor analysis, etc.) was used to analyse the collected data. The results show that the residents perceived positive economic impact but perceived negative social impacts from Foxwood Resort Casino. Therefore, the government needs to concern more on enforcing effective and appropriate policies and regulations on social aspects for residents when a casino is established.
