This technical paper is for Elements Optimization of Side Door which has been involved in IQS score (Hard to open/close). There are several performances that automotive side doors have: isolation from snow/ rain/ noise/ dust/ high temperature, wind noise, opening/closing functions etc. Particularly this paper focuses on side door Opening/Closing which is not only the primary function but also the first operation that all costumers would feel and touch at first hand. As the subjective demands of customers have increased and have become sophisticated in recent days, the ergonomics of automotive side doors had become a critical issue for both designer and customer. In terms of ergonomics, side door is not in the area to make specification about easily, because the operability of door totally relies on senses of customers and there is no certain numbers to be measured by test/experimental devices. So IQS score could be a good target that enables us to more correctly figure out. The Recently investing the great R&D effort, the competitors have shown good door performance which leads to IQS score(Hard to open/close). The objective of this work is 1)to develop a correlation between subjective evaluation, some test results and IQS score(hard to open/close) and 2)to find out the ways to improve IQS score(hard to open/close) effectively by reducing minimum closing velocity. Through these work, best practices of side doors could be quantified as target performance that leads to more excellent customer satisfaction.
