This thesis is about a performance evaluation of counterflow heat exchanger system. The heat exchanger that was used for this research is the first coolant heat exchanger which is the most popular one in the nuclear power plant. I designed the performance evaluation system for the heat exchangers. The validity of the system was checked to meet the requirement of the designing standard. Also, an arrangement plan was brought out for the optimal evaluation process via the performance evaluation of the heat exchanger which was currently in use and additional research was performed to provide the data for the life evaluation. For the practicality and economical efficiency for the evaluation, a Delphi computing program was used to build the performance evaluation system.
As the result of the testing for the confidence level the Heat Transfer Ratio and Heat Transfer Factor turned out to be 17.58 ㎉/hr and 1195.7 ㎉/hr.㎡℃, respectively. Since the values were satisfactory for the designing standard the checking on the confidence level was successful. After the evaluation for appropriateness of the evaluation based on the satisfactory level of the standard was performed, 90% or more of the compliance level of the designing standard considering maximum heat load. In the blocks-in-the-tube test that was performed with 100 tubes the condition of the system was proved the validity of the performance evaluation. The performance evaluation of the current heat exchanger shows the result of 60 and 67 blocks in the tubes. According to the values the heat exchanger needed to be replaced. However, a retest was suggested because of the inaccuracy of the evaluation variables.
