As we know、ShinKokin-wakashu is a 8th anthology of Japanese Classical Poems compiled by Imperial command in 1205 and made some revisions in the same anthology by ex-Emperor Gotobain around 1216. This was made for the purpose of replicating Neo-Kokinwakasyu(古今和歌集) in Japanese Classical Poem history. Therefore、 consisted of 5 prominent poets appointed by Imperial request : Minamotono Michitsugu (源通具)?Fujiwrano Ariie (藤原有家)?Fujiwrano Teika (藤原定家)?Fujiwrano Ietaka (藤原家隆)? Fujiwrano Masatsune (藤原雅?). Especially Teika was most eminent among them and he composed representative poems through the dominant aesthetic principles、describing thoughtful construction or composition、so it called、ushin(有心) including miscellaneous、fascinating styles.
However、it is necessary to grasp ex-Emperor Gotobain's meaning inside this preface. Because eventually there can be found a clear distinction between 5 compliers' the doctrine of art for art's sake and Gtobain's the royal prerogative around poetic consciousness preface of ShinKokin-wakashu.
Gtobain defined his intention and tried to prove his hypothesis about poetic consciousness was correct in this thesis.
