This thesis considers the aspect, meaning and the change of consciousness about killing one's own child in family novels. In both Jangwha and Hongryeon and Changssijeongryeol-rok, his act of murder was accepted leniently because a head of household killed his own child for his family's honor, based on the ideology and common emotions. But, in these works a uterine family was evaluated as a unit not an individual. Based on these consciousness, a head of household choose and raised a child from uterine families who contributed preservation and prosperity of the species and got moral justification. And he killed his own children who were harmful to chosen children or who those fell behind in the competition among uterine families. Therefore, in Jangwha and Hongryeon and Changssijeongryeol-rok, in case that his own killed child and the uterine family including him got the moral justification his own child was reborn and had a chance of coming back to his home. However, if not, his being become extinct and he did not reconcile with his family not to speak of coming back to home.
But, these works mass-produce imitated or derived works such as Kim Inhyang and Kimssi yeolhangrok and a view of checking the use of right of a head of household killing his own child was shown in the works. In other words, killing his own child in family novels was recognized as an extreme penalty that a head of household used and the use of his proper right for his home where profits of a head of household was first guaranteed. But the readers of the works circled round their position about the use of a head of household from tacit agreement to checks and skeptical views.
