Single point notched constant tensile load(SP-NCTL) and environment stress crack resistance(ESCR) tests were generally performed for verifying the stress crack resistance property of high density polyethylene(HDPE) geomembranes(GM). The property of SP-NCTL was tested at 30% yield stress and the property of ESCR was at 50℃ and each test specimen were immersed in 10% Igepal CO-630 agent. In order to investigate the stress crack behavior, virgin resin chip without additives(RWOA) for HDPE GM and resin chip with additives(RWA), that is compound pallet were compared for this research.
In this study, key properties of polyethylene resin were tested for comparing their stress crack behaviors. Stress cracking time were differed from each type of samples. The failure time of ESCR test was too long compared to SP-NCTL's. The SP-NCTL results of RWOA was failed earlier than the RW A's. But there was no difference between each sample of the results of ESCR test within short term testing duration. The ESCR test was influenced by stress relaxation during the test. The SP-NCTL test is reasonable for verifying stress cracking behavior and construction quality control. This research was only for finding the properties of virgin resin for HDPE GM, so further research for HDPE GM products is needed for verifying the detail relation with ESCR and SP-NCTL tests.
