This thesis purposed to research the meaning of the socialistic children's literature in the magazine Byeolnara(『별나라』). Byeolnara was published in June 1926 and was continued in February 1935. It, however, was severely censored by the authorities of colonization because of socialistic and nationalistic contents. At that time, socialistic and nationalistic contents were considered as the meaning of Korean emancipation by the Japan authorities. Therefore Byeolnara was censored like disapproval, elimination and attachment etc. several times.
Nevertheless, Byeolnara contained a lot of socialistic works, criticisms. This thesis focused on the meaning of socialism in children's literature. A lot of socialistic authors created works that included class, the gap between the rich and the poor, a tenant farming and a farm tenancy dispute, migrants for life, nightschools for the poor student etc. How come they contained these contents in their works. It was a method of expression to resist the Japan authorities directly or indirectly.
They thought the reader had to know the realities of the colonial environment that even though the reader was young children. These thought was confronted between the authors of the nationalist and the socialist. The socialist writers went side by side children's movement and children's literature. It called literature as a movement at that time.
Now the magazine Byeolnara was scattered and lost. Therefore we could not the whole magazines. But we can research the characteristics of Byeolnara's works and criciticisms. We can find the magazine Byeolnara about halves each period.
In this thesis, I research about the meaning of socialism in the magazine Byeolnara. Next, I am going to research the works and criticisms in the magazines of Byeolnara.
