The purpose of this study is to analyze the Architectural Elements of Wooden Pagoda in Stone Pagoda and Stupa of Ancient. The Wooden Pagoda was built in the middle of Buddhist temple after Buddhism was introduced into Korea from China. Many Stone Pagoda had been continuous built from that time down to this day. The Stone Pagoda was an adaptation of Wooden Pagoda. Many Stone Pagoda was in course of erection through out make simple and abbreviation of Wooden Pagoda. In addition to. the Stone Stupa was modelled on Wooden Pagoda or Wooden Architecture.
The Architectural style in Ancient was very various and very rich content. Stone Pagoda and Stone Stupa contain with architectural elements. traditional craft. and sculptural art. Many Stone Pagoda were succeeded the one of Wooden Pagoda and had its originality in Architectural style. In detail. the basis part and important part built in imitation of the Wooden Pagoda. The Stone Stupa of Octagonal-wooden structure style has been arranged in the late of Shilla. The style had been continued long in lately Chosun. Stone Stupa had been applied the architectural technique of Wooden Pagoda and Wooden Architecture those days. We search to Architectural Elements of Wooden Pagoda in Main body. and Roof of Stone Stupa.
But in these period there is no Wooden Pagoda remains. Stone Pagoda and Stone Stupa of Ancient had been remained wooden architectural elements. The stone stupa of the Shilla showed ancient architecture. and reflect the architectural style in their own dynasty. We must more serious study of historical materials so that we improve the ancient architecture in Korean architectural history. Main body and Roof of the Stone Pagoda and Stupa impart structure and style of ancient wooden Pagoda to our generation.
