To reduce vibration and noise generated from dehydration mode of drum washer, a type of friction damper which has a free-stroke region was developed.
In the free-stroke region of the damper, sponge is held on inner tube of the damper not to invoke friction froce. this point is critical to reduce vibration of high frequency but calculation of friction force is complicated by stick-slip motion and viscoelastic feature of sponge and other complications
To describe characteristics of the friction force, TVD(transition-velocity-dependent) friction model was simulated by using ADAMS. A drum washer was applicable a friction model, as simulation results were compared with physical test results, performance of friction damper was improved.
