This study measured drainage heat of D apartment house, Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju city to identify the economy of unused energy, and applied heat pump systems which use drainage heat as an energy source to evaluate economy through a comparative analysis with other source systems.
1) The daily mean drainage water of D apartment with nine buildings and 590 families was 234 tone and temperature of the drainage water was 25℃ in summer and 16.5℃ in winter. The temperature and amount of drainage water was stable, and the heater has good conditions to be reused as a heat source of heat pump in an aspect of temperature level.
2) The daily mean energy economy of drainage water in D apartment was 11.7 × 105 ㎉ and the yearly mean was 42.7 × 107 ㎉. The price of current crude oil was about 406,000 won daily and 148,190,000 won yearly.
3) For cooling and heating of shops and management office of D apartment house, when a regenerative heat pump was applied to reuse drainage heat, about 12,679,000 won of yearly expense was curtailed compared to the boiler and refrigerator system. It was found that the investment recovery period of the regenerative heat pump system was 4.2 years. Therefore, in respect to the life span of the equipment, it can be said that it is reasonable.
