I have tried to explain the revision of the Seonjo Veritable Records(SVR) as a whole in three chapters: the revision procedure and debates, the format and references of Revised Version, and revised articles.
In chapter I, I studied the relation between the compilation, of contemporary records and political situation, especially Injo-banjeong (仁祖反正 the In-jo Restoraton), and the scope and committee of the work and the work-process itself through 40 years-enterprise.
Next, I think the reason why both the original SVR and the revised SVR remained, so to speak, the original SVR was not disposed after the revision, was that the model of the revision was the Red-Black History (朱墨史), which corrected the distorted records of the Emperor Cheol-jong Reign in Chinese Sung Dynasty by using red ink in revising on the one hand and black ink in rewriting the original on the other. In addition to save the production cost, this pragmatic convenience implicated a fair and objective accession of records by which descendants or anyone else would judge the truth between the two records remained. Furthermore, I examined the references and the introductory remarks that Yi Sik (李植) who was a leader of this work outlined.
At last, I studied the characteristics of the articles being revised and supplemented, In doing so, I found a lot of articles about the Dong-Seo Party Division (東西分黨), the Gi-Chuk Trial (己丑獄死), and the activities of Loyal Troops (義兵) during Im-Jin Japanese Invasion were supplemented and a lot of comments of diarists on persons Dae-Buk Party heaped abuses on were revised in the revised SVR.
I think the revision of SVR meaned the correction of the fact, first of all, the Second meaning of the work was the reflection of the dynamics that promoted the concentration of the academically oriented parties at that time. The revision of SVR enhanced each who consented on the work or engaged in the work their own identity in the course of revision.
