This article aims at clarifing the conditions for the formation of trust society from the epistemological point of view. For this, this article points out the limit of modern political thought, specially so called social contract theory ; Rousseau, Kant, Rawls. As we see in the Rawls's thesis that the reasonable dominates the rational, these modern political thoughts depend on the following assumption ; by virtue of the reason, human beings recognize self-interest. However they place a priority on public interest when the both interests are in conflict. In the line of this thought, the politics has been considered as the activity of state and market. Consequently, we need another paradigm in order to overcome the impasse of modern political thought.
As the preliminary trial, I intend to understand the text of Marcel Mauss's The Gift and the other relevant literature. Mauss is a pioneer to provide a totally new perspective relating to the logic of contract theory in the sense that he analyzed the social solidarity from the viewpoint of equal exchange. Besides there is an academic trend in which Mauss's theory is applied to search for the basic condition of trust society. In this paper, I analyze the real situation between south and north Korea from the Maussian perspective.
In conclusion, to make a trust society needs another political viewpoint for following reason : the modern political thought could not grasp the role of emotion, love, affection and etc which constitute the social solidarity. By the way, in so far as the confucianism has already developed the political theory including these elements, it merit to take account of social trust on the horizon of oriental political thoughts.
