This study is aimed at finding characteristics of recreation forests and classifying them into similar clusters. In this study, we set 73 national and public forest recreations as of 2006 as a study group and selected representing factors for classification through the brainstorming among forest experts. And the factor analysis and cluster analysis were used to find and classify characteristics of recreation forests.
We can find three factors coveting 56.79％ of whole changes by limiting above 1.0 of eigen value in factor analysis. The first is the socio-economic function that explains 22.86％, such as accessibility, parking area, development condition, and annual use. The second is the natural environmental function that accounts for 18.49％, such as water stream, landscape, and biology. Finally, management-environmental function is made up for 15.53％, such as education and a total number of management staff.
The cluster analysis was carried on by factor scores resulting from the factor analysis to classify recreation forests into 3 clusters with similar characteristics. We called them as facility-oriented areas(13areas), resources-oriented areas(32 areas) and intermediate areas(28areas). It's considerable that this paper will be exploited for a basic material that helps set management purpose and direction of recreation forests in their respects.
