The main purpose of this study is to explore the factors that impact on the obesity of high school girl students in Daegu. This study is based on the survey which was conducted from March 10, 2004 to April 10, 2004 among high school girl students. Originally 600 questionnaires were distributed and 500 were collected. Thus 500 cases were used for the statistical analysis. Two logistic regression analyses were introduced and in which 26 independent variables were included.
Findings of this study are as follows: The body mass index(BMI) indicates that approximately 20.6 percent of the respondents are obese or overweight. On the other hand, it turns out that 39.4 percent of respondents subjectively perceive that they are obese. The result of logistic regression analysis explores that preferences for meat and sweet food decrease odds ratio of the obesity based on the BMI. But other independent variables do not have statistically significant impact on the obesity baed on the BMI. However, in the other logistic regression analysis using the subjective obesity as a dependent variable, life satisfaction, irregular meals, eating food in a hidden, and using stairs increase the odds ratio of the obesity based on the subjective perception of the respondents. On the other hand, it turns out that the frequency of using instant food increases the odds ratio of the obesity based on the subjective perception of the respondents.
Finally, policy implications and some suggestions in order to decrease the obesity of the high school girl students are introduced and discussed.
