We try to make clear the code of 'Cow' in poetry written by Kwon Jung-Saeng in this article. The materials of this study are seven works of serial poems 〈Cow(소)〉 and four fairy tales. 〈Cow(소)〉, 〈When the ears of barley are out(보리이삭 팰 때)〉, 〈Nazarene child(나사렛 아이)〉, and 〈Uncle cow(황소아저씨)〉 are the fairy tales in which a cow is a main character or plays an important role. Serial poems 〈Cow〉 written by Kwon Jung-Saeng are connecting ring for detection of cooperating point between studies about his poems and fairy tales. His consciousness acts beyond genres. We can know his consciousness related to cow by making clear the code of 'Cow' that is dissolved in his poetic and fairy tale works. Furthermore, we can approach to what the writer tries to tell us through 'Cow'. The 'Cow' that is formed in his works is a huge metonymical substance.
In chapter 2, we took a look at the meanings that made by his works that has subjects of sufferings of daily lives in serial poems 〈Cow〉. Paddy fields and dry fields that are places of labor are the places where cows confirm their doomy 'yoke'. And, the final ceremony that cows escape from their bridles of labor is the way to butchery. We observed that cows decorated the last sacrifice by providing their own body, although they can escape from the bridles of labor through their death. In subsequent chapter 3, we made clear the meanings of his works which are free from labor of daily lives and exploitation. The spaces of nature that a field represents are the code of freedom. That is the place where dreams of escape from restraint and labor can dispread. A cowhouse was not only the space of lives but also the code of union and coexistence.
