The objective of the research was to investigate the functional discomfort in using IT (information technology) products among different age groups. IT products tested in this study were mobile phone, automated teller machine, and personal computer. Questionnaire was made for standardized questions and personal interview was conducted to record even spontaneous answers by elderly subjects. The results from different age groups were compared each other to show the unique characteristics of using IT products. In results, the older subjects used text message function in mobile phone, withdrawal in automated teller machine, home shopping and internet banking in personal computer. Also, ANOVA(analysis of variance) results indicated that there were significant difference of discomfort among different age groups using input button, speaker volume, portability of mobile phone, input button of automated teller machine, display of personal computer at the α= 0.01 level. It was found that older adults over 65 were feeling inconvenient using cognitive functions of sizeof text, meaning of menu, depth of menu, and so on. Therefore, it is expected that designers have to consider the cognitive elements more than physical elements for designing IT products for older adults.
