Taiwan and Korea had the same kind of historical fate - they were despoiled and occupied by Japanese. The colonial time lasts for ~ years in Taiwan, from 1895 to 1945 and 36 years in Korea, from 1910 to 1945. During the colonial time, Taiwan contended strongly for their freedom for about 20 years, but unfortunately compromised with the colonial power at the end. On the contrary, the Korean opposed even more aggressively after Emperor Lee became the mere puppet of Japanese ruler. Living in such a complete shambles, the Korean ignited the revolution and constantly fought for the dignity. The events in Taiwan and Korea were written into the page and became Protest Literature which depicts the colonial history woven by the tears and blood.
Under the Japanese occupation, Lai He and Han Yong-Un deny the reality and existence of colony. The objects they deny are not only the colonial politics and society but also the unreasonable culture and the culture lagging behind. Lai He and Han Yong-Un observe, analyze and contemplate the possibility of standing up to the colonial power. The most prominent way to achieve is to rebuild the morale, especially through the way of education and enlightenment. So it means, advocating the value in city, village and other rural areas becomes an important task. Other than that, they also publish some articles criticizing the social unfair phenomenon of colonial time.
Literature is the reflection of the reality. Lai He and Han Yong-Un under the colonial rule were still looking forward to the ideal world and trying to salvage their national consciousness through the imaginary literary space. In the japanese occupation, the ordeals make Lai He and Han Yang-Urn's literal spirits frustrated but they preserve their national consciousness. This is comparatively the positive value in the literature. In summary, Lai He and Han Yong-Un had harbored the grudges against japanese colony and their wistfulness for an ideal world makes the national consciousness poetry possible.
Our aim of this article is to trace and discuss the national consciousness new poetry of Lai He and Han Yong-Un as it manifested itself under japanese colony, rebellion against the colony and development of strong fighting spirit. We will also analyze each work on its own literary merit by applying historical point of view to understand constructs and narratives of hegemony.
