The Tiger's character changes according to time pass in Tiger's gratitude tale. It contributes to provide a fun and a moral, that is, if someone helps the living animal, he gets a fortune. On the other hand, it provides a principle of change in its own independently. On the basis of the change in Tiger's character above, this thesis is to analyze the principle of change in Tiger's character, and, in relation with children's development, to find out what kinds of meaning the principle get. The results are as follows.
In the first place, it is found out that the change in Tiger's character is realized in the course of oppositeness and unification. The oppositeness and unification functions as a principle to change self-centric character into decentric character, and decentric character into self-internalization character. The Tiger's character changes through the principle of oppositeness and unification, and its course results in the finding of self-identity.
In the second place, it is inferred that this tale provides children of before and after 7 age and teenagers of before and after 14~15 age for a principle of oppositeness and unification. These two hierarchial grades are one of parts, which makes difficult to specify to which age group Tiger's gratitude tale can be a study model. However, it is possible to say that, due to the very difference in grades, this tale can be a useful study model to each age group, not limited in certain age group.
Tales, especially folk tales become an important study model in relation with children's development. That Tiger's gratitude tale presents a principle of oppositeness and unification means that this tale can be a study model for children and teenagers in that this tale provides a developmental opportunity for their social growth and self-realization.
