This study would focus on importance and historical value of the watercourse traces around Cheonggye stream and necessity of restoration and formation of street, aspect of street system change. And this study would focus on the possibility of waterway restoration with Cheonggye stream restoration project. The city developed and keep with history by changed physical forms. Nam-Chon has street environment is based on historical waterway and was accomulated the historical traces through long time. This area was mixed by the grid pattern system like Eulji-ro and Donhwamon-ro and free form pattern street was based on old stream traces, as a result exist the atypical block in grid street system, and industrial district is distributed by old city block system. The atypical blocks and organic street shape which is accomulated by historical waterway traces in the city is important element and valuable preservation of historical things. Furthermore the restoration of waterway in Nam-Chon is very valuable thing in revitalizing of the city. This study suggest that it would be important to consider the characteristic identity and historical background of Nam-Chon area as a guideline of the preservation and the future planning of the city.
