The various social changes such as improvement of education, increasing women's economic activity, decreasing birth rate, life extension and change of value are linked with the change of family structure and caused diversity of household attributes. However, there's insufficient information like various household characteristic and change of housing choice at housing policy in Korea. Accordingly, this paper focuses on the change of housing choice by households from 1996 to 2006. The data is the survey of Household's Consumption from 1996 to 2001 and Family Income and Expenditure Survey in 2006 of the National Statistical Office. Analysis method is multinomial logit model. The results of analysis are summarized as follows; First, the household head who has high permanent-income and long period of education is able to get more income and upper social status, owes or gives a deposit for house. It has been risen for the household to owe apartment since 2001, for increasing housing supplement in seoul from 1996 to 2001. Second, the large family who needs spacious house, owes a detached house and row house because those house types are more spacious than other types. Third, the likelihood of matriarch (woman household head) to give a deposit for detached house or owing row house have been decreased. Former matriarchs were divided into two type, young matriarch who leases (deposit and monthly rent) detached house and row house and old matriarch who owes house. However, it has been increased for matriarch to have upper social-financial status and be a household head in general family. Therefore, housing choice of matriarch which was clear has been faded away. Fourth, unmarried household had been put the detached house and row house to lease until 2001, owed apartment in 2006. So did old household head, for unmarried households most of whom are single-family have got better income and considered other elements in determining housing choice.
