On November 28th, 2006, it is reported that the Gui Drama named Great Confucianist of Lingnan Going Home had been awarded as one of splendid plays between 2005 and 2006 years in China. In all the ten plays, it won the second place. The drama is a story about Chen Hongmou, whose natives Lingui, Guangxi. He lived during the Qianlong period of Qing Dynasty and was famous for his study on Cheng-Zhu School of Neo-Confucian. Based on the research and the works of Chen Hongmou himself, this paper is focus on his philosophy thought and practice.
First, the paper pointed that truth (?) and perseverance (恒) are the two core concepts in the philosophy thought system of Chen Hongmou. This two concepts is not only the basic characters a good human should possess, but also an important principle to guild the practice.
Second, among the political practices, to illustrate how the philosophy thought guild the practice, this paper mainly discuss on those about educational development, because Chen Hongmou regarded education as the first work for which the local officers should take a responsible and he thought that education was a key factor for the future of a country.
At last, the paper concluded that Chen Hongmou had a long and lasting effect for Chinese people, especially those in Guangxi. Many scholars and literates admired him as the model of character and practice. Even now, the drama about him is very popular around the country. The philosophy thought and practice experiences of Chen Hongmou are valuable spirit legacy for us.
