The present study was performed in order to examine the effects of different types of bag on the berry cracking of 'Kyoho' grape. Treatment groups used in the experiment were a control group (No bagging) and Group W (treated with a white bag), Y (treated with a yellow bag) and B (treated with a blue bag), and light transmittance was high in order of white bag > yellow bag > blue bag. When the light transmittance of the bag was high, the soluble solid concentrations and the anthocyanin content were higher, and fruit firmness was 1.39 ㎏/φ5㎜, 1.40 ㎏/φ5㎜ and 1.47 ㎏/φ5㎜, respectively, for the white, yellow and blue bags. The berry cracking rate of the no-bagging treatment group was higher than 50%, but the rate was 42.7% in Group W, 39.9% in Group Y and 30% in Group B, showing the tendency that the lower light transmittance lessened the berry cracking rate. The thickness of the sub-epidermal layer was 174.3㎛ in W, 195.4㎛ in Y and 211.1㎛ in B, showing the tendency that lower light transmittance resulted in thicker sub-epidermal layer. In addition, the cracking of the stylar scar and stomata was reduced when light transmittance was low. When the merchantability and the berry cracking rate of fruit were assessed based on the results of this experiment, the yellow bag with light transmittance of 22% is considered adequate.
