Supply of microbiologically and genetically controlled high quality laboratory animals has improved reliability and reproducibility of data obtained from animal experiments. However, other factors, one of the most common of which is the diets are still producing variation in results. This paper reviews the cases of animal experiments varied by the types and different qualities of diets. Composition of diet influenced biological processes such as growth, life span, diseases, tumor, and responses to chemical treatment. Survey result about the status of quality control of diets suggested a guideline which considering current situation of domestic manufacturing companies should be established.
