During March to September 2001, the characteristics of drop size distribution (DSD) at each rainrate were investigated using a disdrometer (POSS) and rainguage in Busan, Korea. A statistical Z-R relationship by POSS and correction of rainrate were obtained and compared with radar Z-R relationship. As a result, total mean number concentration N(D)s were widely distributed at various rain rates and they had different patterns from theoretical M-P's distribution. The N(D)s of smaller drops than 2 ㎜ size were shown to the lower values in contrast to the theoretical one, relatively. However they had higher values at bigger drops than 2 ㎜ size. Totally mean Z-R relationship obtained by POSS was Z= 415 R<SUB>1.51</SUB> at all precipitation cases without classification of precipitation types. New calculated Z-R relationship which was converted to the correlation reflectivity (Z<SUB>c</SUB>) between radar reflectivity (Z<SUB>R</SUB>) and POSS reflectivity (Z<SUB>P</SUB>) was well applied to the estimation of rainfall rate at Busan city, Korea. It is found that Kuduck DWSR-88C weather radar has to be operated at more accurate one which was calibrated and calculated to the new Z-R relationship using drop size distribution at each precipitation type.
