Generally aviation meteorological fog is defined as an obscuration phenomenon when prevailing visibility becomes less than 1000 m. Fog defined above causes so many aviation traffic problems like detour and delay in many middle-latitude countries. Especially Korea has been more affected by fog because most of airports are located near coastal areas. Also, it is difficult to predict fog occurrence, duration, and its intensity not only qualitatively but also quantitatively, in spite of highly technological improvements in numerical weather system for the aviation weather service. For making the base of aviation meteorological forecasting technique of the fog occurrence, this study focused on the analysis of (1) the climatological characteristics including fog frequency, onset, offset time, and duration time, and (2) the meteorological factors including temperature, dew-point temperature, and wind etc at the Incheon Int'l Airport. In order to analyze the climatological characteristics of the fog, this study uses meteorological observation data measured every hour at the Incheon Int'l Airport aviation meteorological office for 4-years from September 2000 to August 2004. As a result, the total of a foggy day at the Incheon Int'l Airport is 82 days. The average onset-time and offset-time of the fog is 0317 LST and 0747 LST, respectively. And the fog average lasting time is 4 hours 30 minutes. Next, in the summer season, the monthly average temperature of a foggy day is lower than that of no foggy day, but in the winter season, it is higher than that of no foggy day. And the monthly average dew-point temperature of a foggy day is higher than that of no foggy day in all month. Especially, in the winter season, the difference between it and that of no foggy day is above 10 degrees. In the case of monthly average dew-point deficit, it is similar to that of monthly average dew-point temperature.
