The purpose of this study is to describe discourse functions of postverbal NPs (henceforth PVNPs) from the perspective of the type of 'topic progression' in English Right-dislocation Construction (henceforth RD) in written discourses. I have examined discourse functions of RD construction following Danes (1974) and Lautamatti (1978), and shown that they are 'topic reidentification' and 'topic elaboration.' Also I have explained that discourse functions of PVNPs can be divided precisely even though in the same construction according to the discourse positions in the types of topic progression. It is said that discourse function of PVNPs in RD construction is 'topic elaboration' when it appeared in the initial position. On the other hand, in the middle or final position in discourses, PVNPs have functioned as 'topic reidentification.
