The main goal of this paper is to show that the experientialist theory of metaphor can be successfully applied to various interdisciplinary analyses. To do this, this paper will offer two interrelated case studies. One is the cognitive linguistic analysis of 'lust' in Korean, in which various Korean expressions on lust are the metaphorical extensions which are grounded on several concrete and physical bases. The other is the analysis of the 'Man on Horse' metaphor, in which the experientialist theory of metaphor works fine in clarifying one of the main doctrines of Chinese philosopher Chu-hsi. By examining the metaphorical structure and the historical transformations of the "Man on Horse" metaphor, this study reveals the transformational structure of a philosophical theory. This paper thus shows a necessity and a possibility of a metaphorical analysis of philosophical theory in general. The results strongly imply that the fundamental tenets of cognitive linguistics may be appropriately extended even to various disciplines other than linguistics.
