The Korean crop protection industry is facing big challenges internally and externally to meet customer’s ever increasing expectations whist business profitability is not attractive as it used to be. These changes and their implications for domestic crop protection industry as well as global industry were reviewed in this paper, starting with global outlook, followed by challenges and opportunities for the Korean crop protection industry.
Agricultural competitiveness is largely dependant upon meeting consumer’s preference for quality food and environmentally friendly production systems. To meet their ever-increasing demand for fresher, healthier and safe food, farmers must change their current farming practice in collaboration with CP industry.
A key strategy in achieving this objective is to shift from old, high quantity, low efficacy chemicals to new, modern, environmentally responsible products that are used in smaller quantities, and are safer and more effective against pests and diseases. Meeting the customer’s needs is the challenge and opportunity faced by the Korean CP industry.
