'This article examines Lee Kwang Soo's writings arguably referred not only to his longing for national independence bur also to his identification with Japanese. Although it has been noted frequently that there may be a much closer connection between Lee's cultural nationalism and his collaboration with Japan than is usually thought, there are few scholarly attempts to see about his conception of domination in terms of a coherent logic as something bracketing together with mutually exclusive extremes. Certainly, it is hard to deny that with the notion of domination, Lee primarily aims at emphasizing the need for survival. But it is equally appropriate to say that leaving aside his collaboration with Japan as moral defection or a strategical choice makes us lose sight of the fact that Lee applies the logic of domination to his various assertions about national independence, cultural renovation, and indelible collaboration. By juxtaposing Lee's political thoughts with Nietzsche's thesis on domination which was in vogue world-wide at the moment, I will argue two things: (1) that Lee retains the politics of domination that gives epistemological coherence to his ideas ranging from the advocacy of cultural renovation to the assertion of voluntary subordination to the Japanese Empire; and (2) that Lee's politics of domination demonstrates the need for overcoming the simple antinomies between resistance and collaboration on the one hand, nationalism and colonialism on the other hand.
